Have you ever seen droplets, resembling tears, leaking from the ends of some cut vine shoots?
Spring is just around the corner, the sun warms nature and begins to colour our landscapes with beautiful scenery.
But what is happening in our vineyards?
During the winter period, the vines shed their foliage and remained dormant, waiting for the return of spring and thus the rise in temperatures. In this phase, "dry" pruning is carried out, in order to select the fruiting heads, from which the fruiting shoots that will generate the subsequent production will develop.
With the arrival of spring, the vineyard experiences a situation of slow awakening: the vine resumes its lymphatic activity, reactivating sugar metabolism and cellular activity. The lymph begins to flow out in the areas where previous pruning cuts have been made to heal the wound that has remained open.
This phenomenon is known as the "weeping of the vine", which is the first clear sign of the plant's vegetative awakening with the arrival of fine weather.
The weeping of the vine marks the beginning of the vegetative recovery of the vineyard, in the period between March and April, which will continue with the sprouting of future shoots to generate the production of the new vintage.
